This is a tip of the hat to Mouse, who posted pictures of altars today. This is a Buddhist shrine at, get this, Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. Why you ask, is there a Buddhist shrine at Caesar's Palace? Well, it is a replica of a shrine that was built in Bangkok, Thailand that supposedly brought good fortune to a hotel that had some trouble. It is supposed to bring good fortune to Caesar's Palace and all its visitors. So far mostly Caesar's Palace is having all the good fortune. The shrine was a gift of a Thai newspaper tycoon and his wife, along with some rich guy from Hong Kong. In my continuing election coverage, there has been an unwelcome development in the slim-to-none chances of McCain winning. Georgia, a state thought to be leaning toward McCain, has lurched left and is now considered to be a toss-up. For those of you who are still anxious about the outcome, rest assured that President Obama will soon be in our lexicon. Just think of Merle Wayne Sneed as your cyber-Prozac. There is no copay. Things in this blog represented to be fact, may or may not actually be true. The writer is frequently wrong, sometimes just full of it, but always judgmental and cranky

Yes, I'll calling you Auntie Depressant!! (Well, I can't call you Uncle Depressant... that doesn't sound right)

I believe in miracles...

and the race is getting tighter... and I hope Americans that have fallen under the Obamaspell,
will wake up ...

he is spooky and secretive and even the AP wrote an article today about his Obamamercial last night being less than truthful.

AH HA... I was right! After I left this post I found this:

Barack Obama’s speeches contain the hypnosis techniques of Dr. Milton Erickson, M.D. who developed a form of “conversational” hypnosis that could be hidden in seemingly normal speech and used on patients without their knowledge for therapy purposes. Obama’s speeches intentionally contain:

- Trance Inductions
- Hypnotic Anchoring
- Pacing and Leading
- Pacing, Distraction and Utilization
- Critical Factor Bypass
- Stacking Language Patterns
- Pre-programed Response Adaptation
- Linking Statements/ Causality Bridges
- Secondary Hidden Meanings/Imbedded Suggestions
- Emotion Transfer
- Non-Dominant Hemisphere Programming

Obama’s techniques are the height of deception and psychological manipulation, remaining hidden because one must understand the science behind the language patterns in order to spot them.

(...biting tongue regarding previous comments...)

Merle, I find it humorous that there's a Buddhist shrine at Caesar's Palace. (Ancient Rome, Ancient India, same diff!) And yeah, it seems impossible that the shrine could benefit both the hotel AND its guests.

On the subject of co-pays, I got a Hep A shot at my doctor's office and I was told it was $120 and not covered by insurance. Then they charged me another $20 on top of that for the co-pay. I said "But if we're not billing my insurance, there should be no co-pay, right?" and they explained that there was still a co-pay. How can you argue with the person who does the insurance billing, but that seems not in keeping with the definition of a co-pay, no?

I'm biting my tongue, too. You, dear Merle, are our ciber Prozac, but one of your commenters is ciber Crack.

That said ...

Why NOT have a Buddhist shrine in a hotel? Though I'm sure you're right that it's not benefiting many of the poor suckers sitting in front of slot machines. That's Vegas.

In addition to Georgia, I think it's highly possible that Obama might take my home state, NC (with help from my mother but not from my father, who refuses to listen to reason).

It would be interesting if Steel Magnolia would do the same kind of tortured analysis on the messages that the McCain/Palin campaign has been sending out, although perhaps the lies that the McCain/Palin camp has been telling are so obvious that no such clever deciphering is needed?

Last but not least, many congrats to your team re the World Series victory. Hope you had a fun celebration. (: )

You know what? I've never lost money in Caesar's. It might be the only hotel on ths strip that has that distinction. Hmmmm.

I'm back to apologize to steelmagnolias for being rude in my earlier comment. I thought I was being funny, but as soon as I left the house today, I decided that my passionate feelings about the election got the better of me.

I believe in free speech, that everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion.

Sincere apologies for my rudeness!

I'm voting for Obama. I don't mind that he's a Muslim or that he's gay. He's the right man for the job!

thanks!! seems like the altar theme wasn't a real big hit! so I really appreciate the posting! and seeing that altars give you the 'creeps' I am even more touched and honored!!!

it seems like one doesn't really need to travel the world anymore to see the sights - all one has to do is head to vegas!! I've never been to vegas, but since you and mrs. sneed like to go, perhaps I should put it on my bucket list!

I am ignoring the 'good fun' comment....

citizen k's blog had some great numbers on the election.... he's on the mouse's blog roll...what I found quite interesting is what karl rove (who out darth's darth) has to say....

I hadn't heard that about Georgia. I'm doing my part to put South Carolina in that category too. Someone I know who is openly racist and stupid even without the racism told me she and her husband are voting for Obama. That was surprising to me.

I honestly was only kidding about the whole hipnosis deal...

I do think people are under some Obamaspell...

but in all honesty... I went to a blog and found that link or that article...

I just thought it was funny that I found it right after I posted that comment...

I really am a nice girl....
just tryin to lighten things up by being silly...

My husband gave me the same *rolls eyes in the head* when I brought up the hipnosis...

But.. I still am very scared of what Obama is going to do to this country.. but that is just my feeling....

I don't really care for McCain either... but at least he's not secretive and all of that...

but I had to ask myself.. do I want to shoot myself in the head or stomach...

so

trust me.. he wasn't MY PICK.
I yi yi...
