A happy Thanksgiving to one and all!

Mrs. Sneed, our son Tim and I will be leaving for our daughter's house in a few minutes for our annual Thanksgiving ritual.  Thanksgiving is bittersweet for the Sneed family.

Our little Christian was born on 11/23 and he would have been 16 yesterday.    Christian left us much too soon, nine years ago, taken suddenly, with no time so say goodbye.  Time dulls, but the pain of his loss, will never leave us.

Today we will release 16 green balloons and watch them sail upward, until they are gone.  We will release one Mylar balloon, this year it is Lightning McQueen, a tip of the hat to the little boy who may be gone, but will never leave us.

Carl Sagan said that we are all star stuff, our bodies made from atoms that were born in the stars.  I don't hold hope that one day I will see Christian in another place, but I am comforted by the idea that the atoms that made Christian, are all around, in the air I breath and in the buds that burst from my roses in Spring.

To quote the philosopher, Buzz Lightyear, "To infinity and beyond."

Merle, that's the most eloquent description of the so-called afterlife, at least as I conceive it, that I've read in a long time.

I hope you and Mrs. Sneed and the rest of your family had a great Thanksgiving.

That's a lovely remembrance ceremony- - I hope it helped bring some peace.

As often is the case, you've taken only a few words to say a great deal. I do believe you could whittle away Mount Everest with a paperclip. Thank you. Wishing you and your family all the best, Merle.

I can't imagine anything worse than losing a child. I'm sure the pain always stays with you. The balloons are such a fitting way to remember him.
