Attempting to push my buttons, Kurt referred to SGNB and his attempt to buy me Goodwill golf shoes as 'sweet'.    Well, nice try.

SGNB is not sweet, or thoughtful. He has an illness that drives him to buy sh*t he doesn't need.  He fills his life and the lives of others with stuff and most of it is not worth the effort it takes to carry it to the car, take it out and toss it in the trash.

Fortunately for SGNB and me, the shoes were priced at $15, so SGNB wasn't about to buy them on the chance that I would repay him.  At golf Thursday, he showed up his usual 20 minutes after we teed off, but at least he was empty-handed.

He asked if I took advantage of his tip and I told him that I wasn't interested in thrift store shoes, no matter how swell.  Harsh?  Maybe, but the only proven deterrent for SGNB is outright rejection, and that is only about 50% effective.

I know from years of dealing with SGNB, that if you accept anything from him, he will unleash the full might of his hoarding upon you.    SGNB has roughly the same sense of style as a homeless man; he is the Don Quixote of thrift stores, mistaking windmills of trash for valuable stuff.

Make no mistake, I know people who shop at Goodwill and find perfectly good items that fit their needs.  Nothing wrong with that.  SGNB is not among them, his main criterion is not value or utility, but buying just about anything cheap, regardless of condition.  Not for resale mind you, but to pile in his house.

Mrs. Sneed is in a fury of declutterization since her retirement,  closets being cleaned, wardrobe rethought, that sort of thing.  Allowing SGNB to drop more clutter on me seems counterproductive to her efforts.  Counter productivity is not a welcome addition to her campaign.

This past Saturday morning Mrs. Sneed asked that I drop off several bags of clothing and household goods at the Goodwill.    Since I was already at the Goodwill store, I decided to pop in and have the old look/see at the shoes Bob was keen on.  Let me just say that if Bozo the Clown was to take up golf, these would be the shoes he would wear.   They are hideous.

So, feel for SGNB is you are a good person.  As for me, I've been  in the path of SGNB's avalanche of crap and it is a visit I don't wish to repeat.

Things in this blog represented to be fact, may or may not actually be true. The writer is frequently wrong, sometimes just full of it, but always judgmental and cranky

Well now I'm thankful that I don't have a SGNB in my life!

LOL! I love that you checked out the shoes. I know people like SGNB who just can't pass up a "deal" even if they (or others) don't need it.

I did indeed crank up the ol' blog again, shortly before I left my job and we moved in June. Now I have all the time in the world, so why not blog?!

I am not qualified to judge golf shoe aesthetics, so I will take your word for it.

I have amassed an excellent record collection from shopping at my local Salvation Army - all of them were 99 cents!

OK, I believe I am caught up. To Mrs. Sneed: Mazel tov. Particularly if you're the best nurse ever, retirement is a Very Good Thing. Enough is enough!

Your posts about your job history are hilarious and ring so very true. Wow.

Glad the heat broke. Your roses are as beautiful as possible.

Golf shoes. I don't know what to say about them. As for excess junk of any kind, I'm against it.

Sigh. Even Goodwill ain't what it used to be.

Maybe Dad would like them. He's of SGNB's ilk.
