Dec 24, 2010

I was at the store the other day, in line behind a woman writing a check to pay for her purchases.  I can't recall the last time that happened.  Who writes checks anymore?

I suppose lots of folks still do to pay bills by check. Not as many as used to for sure, judging from the troubles down at the post office.

The lovely Mrs. Sneed and I  mostly use our credit union's bill pay service in lieu of checks.  They have secret banky ways of getting the payment to the recepient without the use of check or mail.

Some things, like our car insurance, are automatically debited from my checking account.  Mrs. Sneed doesn't go in for the auto-debit, but that is another story.

One check that I do write each month is to Larry the Bug Guy for $29.50.  Larry works for a Mom and Pop bug service and that's how they do it.  Larry told me that I can get set up on a monthly billing with them, but how does that help?  I would have to ask the bill pay service send them a check instead of my handing Larry one.

The check that causes the biggest nuisance in my life is my paycheck from the hardware store.  Someone down there missed the news release about net pay deposit and still thinks writing and delivering checks to the workers is still the latest.

Every other week I get to schlep down to the credit union with my embarrassingly small paycheck and stand in line with the people who need help in balancing their checkbook or the ones who are certain that their bounced check is a bank error.

Checks?  Who needs 'em?

This is the oldest surviving Christmas photo from our married life.  It was taken in 1969 when I was actually young.  Proof positive that I didn't spring from the earth as an old buzz-kill.

From Mrs. Sneed, myself and Sneedlets everywhere, Merry Christmas!

Oh, and about that checks thing --- I think we should let them go for it.

It may be one of the things in the last bastion...

Direct Deposit for our paychecks was the best invention EVER. Maybe your store will get with the program someday.

I love the pictures. Those Sneedlets are so big! Whoa, kind of scary how big they are.

I love writing checks and pay all my bills that way. Am I old fashioned?? Oh well. xx Happy 2011 dear friend.

Cheers!
