We had a torrential downpour on Saturday night, accompanied by near hurricane-force winds.

Technically hurricane-force winds exceed 75 mph, so we had near and not actual hurricane-force, clocking in at 60 mph.  Anyway the whole business lasted about an hour, which is par for the course around here.

Sustained, all day rain happens in the winter in Hooterville.  Typically, our summer storms are brief and violent, dropping a lot of rain and doing a lot of damage.

The Hooterville Chamber of Commerce is running what may be the goofiest ad campaign ever, touting our fair city.   I heard this on the radio this morning.

I love living in Hooterville.  Being able to golf year around and having a world class medical research company like, Hooterville Medical Research.  Hiking in Sabino Canyon...

I get the golf and the hiking, but does anyone really love living here because of some company, unless they work for it?

I realize that the gratuitous plug for the company is a quid pro quo for their having supported the Chamber, but it is so misplaced that I have to chuckle.

Of course this is the same group that thought we should stop calling Hooterville , The Old Pueblo and start calling it The Sunshine Factory, so...

This is a video of a summer downpour taken out  someone's window.  Hootervillians love to videotape the rain, it happens so infrequently.

Our municpal motto ought to be, storm drains?  We don't need no stinkin' storm drains!

Things in this blog represented to be fact, may or may not actually be true. The writer is frequently wrong, sometimes just full of it, but always judgmental and cranky

The problem with the Chamber of Commerce is that it's run by PEOPLE. If they can fix that little problem I'm sure they can come up with some persuasive commercials.

I have vivid memories of the August when we moved our son out there to go to law school. One of those sudden downpours quickly resulted in ankle-deep water in the street because of the lack of storm sewers. Who ever heard of not building storm sewers unless you live in the desert? Oh yeah, you do live in the desert...

It's too bad you can't catch all that rain since the water table keeps dropping.

The very first time I was in your fair state, the car I was driving was struck by lightning.

I've never been in a downpour like that before or since. It's been 25 years, and we STILL talk about it.

I don't think I could live where it seldom rains. I love the rain. We've had very little this summer.

It IS pretty funny that someone videotaped the rain.

Does the medical research place actually treat people? If so, then I could see how it might make a difference to someone. If it's just research, not so much.

Merle, you never told me you lived right next to a river. After seeing the view from your roof and everything, I'm surprised I never knew...
