By now you know that we have another change of direction in California's battle to keep gay people from legally validating their relationships.

All I can say is that I hope this ruling holds up on appeal.

As I was driving home tonight, I heard a fool on the radio quoting from the Bible about God's hatred of gay marriage, or at least that was the case he was attempting to build.   God couldn't make it to the studio tonight, so we were left with what He is supposed to have said on the matter.

The evidence presented largely consisted of reading from Genesis. Specifically, the creation myth.

I don't think one wants to go down the road of using the Old Testament as evidence in in an argument about human behavior.  That is a slippery slope.

For instance,

All who curse their father or mother must be put to death.  They are guilty of a capital offense.  (Leviticus 20:9).

That one would do a bunch of us in.  Not to mention the OT prescription of death for fornicators, believers in other religions,  fortunetellers,  blasphemers, women who are not virgins on their wedding night, nonbelievers, hitters of their father, gays, infidels and people who work on the Sabbath.

Did I miss anyone?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you want your marriage sanctified, blessed, sealed or bonded in God, feel free to seek out the holy man or woman of your choice and have at it.  Just leave other folks with the freedom to do the same.

And now a clip of my favorite crazy man of God, Rev. James David Manning.

Things in this blog represented to be fact, may or may not actually be true. The writer is frequently wrong, sometimes just full of it, but always judgmental and cranky

I use that same argument all the time. But, sadly, if the person wants to believe that homosexuality is a sin they aren't going to listen to me. Why bring logic into the matter?

My former rector wrote a pamphlet about how she doesn't really believe that the Bible prohibits being gay. She's my shining light in the Christian world...

From Wikipdia: "Most Christians do not consider themselves to be bound by the Levitical purity code itself. Many Christians, however, feel that certain moral aspects of the law still apply, such as the sexual morals of Chapter 18."

Says it all.

To the best of my knowledge, Jesus said nothing about homosexuality. The Biblical verses that get trotted out to support anti-gay views are always those tired old things from the Old Testament. Let's face it -- those were written in a time when small nomadic desert societies needed every available adult to procreate, and they had an interest in discouraging homosexuality, even among those who were no doubt really gay deep down. I don't think the same can be said today!

The fight isn't over but a battle has been won.

Isn't it sad that I'm talking about marriage as a fight and a battle? Maybe that's why I've never been married.

I don't believe in book burning, but if I did, Leviticus would be one of the first to go...

I couldn't have said this better. I was delighted to hear about the recent ruling because what goes in CA eventually goes for the whole country. We need to put this one behind us and move on to things worthy of being debated.

I try to understand the way THEY think, but I really don't get it. I can't find any common ground. Are they really the same species as us? So weird!

It's only a matter of time before gay marriage is legalized, but ignorance will never disappear.
