The construction guys finally finished on Tuesday morning. It is such a relief to have them out of our routine. It is even more of a relief to have their giant piles of debris off the sidewalk in front of our house. I expected a visit from Hooterville's finest and a citation for creating a public nuisance. Luckily, I didn't.

I ditched out on golf today.  I just didn't want to get up early and rush off, not to mention that we have a ton of work around here.

It has been unseasonably cold this week.  Our low overnight was in the mid-thirties.  Plus it rained again last night, so the last thing I needed to be doing is slogging around the golf course.

I sent the usual suspects an email yesterday begging off for today.  I didn't want to call Some Guy Named Bob with the news because he whines and carries on so.

So, Mrs. Sneed and I spent the day buying landscaping plants and doing planting, along with extending the irrigation lines to the new  stuff.  It looks great, but summer is not here and that is the acid test.

I also finished wiring and installing the lighting on the columns.

The other big project that has been weighing on my mind is recoating the roof.  Our roof needs to be recoated with a white elastomeric paint-like coating every five years or so.  This protects the roof itself and more importantly, reflects the summer heat.   Believe it or not, the coating is eligible for a federal and state credit because it is an energy saving techinique.

If I was inclined to do the job myself, it would cost me a thousand bucks in materials and take me about three or four day to finish.

While we were working in the yard a guy from a local company stopped to ask if I wanted an estimate to coat the roof.  Some coincidence.

His estimate was $1400, so tomorrow they are coming to do it.  They did the preliminary work this afternoon, cleaning the roof and getting it ready to coat.

One less thing to worry about.

It turned out great, Merle. You'll have to show us all your plantings when they get going.

The new wall looks great. So western and different from the architecture here in the east.

We too could probably do a lot of the things we pay others to do. I chalk it up to supporting the economy.

If you wait long enough you find out what you need to know. About the white paint for the roof.
It is something we have considered at our apartments to reduce the heat in summer for those living directly below the flat roof. I found out more from your post than at any store here!!

As long as that guy sticks to his estimate -- and he better, if I know Merle Sneed!

Coating the roof? That doesn't sound fun at all. Skipping golf to landscape with Mrs. Sneed? Oh yeah. A no brainer.

We've been involved in a lot of maintenance and improvements around here, too.

I love the details of your improvements. The lanterns are great and the plantings are very nice. Enjoy!
