"We are alone, absolutely alone on this chance planet: and, amid all the forms of life that surround us, not one, excepting the dog, has made an alliance with us."--Maurice Maeterlinck If your name is Squirrel, you might not want to read this post. I took this picture through the dining room window, so the quality isn't the best. Lacey the Wonder Mutt, has taken up her new post, which is to stare intently at the fountain in the backyard. We recently have had a visitor Squirrel running around the backyard and generally enjoying an oasis from the heat and dust. The squirrel evidently hid behind the fountain. Lacey spent weeks trying to catch the poor squirrel and unfortunately, last week she succeeded, sending poor squirrel to eternity. Now the numbskull sits in wait, should another hapless squirrel happens by. Things in this blog represented to be fact, may or may not actually be true. The writer is frequently wrong, sometimes just full of it, but always judgmental and cranky

I feel your pain, man. My squirrel hunters are devastated because their favorite squirrel tree (which was beautiful but clearly dying) was cut down about two weeks ago. They still charge the spot where it once stood, even though all the poor squirrelies who once called it home have (hopefully) relocated. I wonder if they got an eviction notice beforehand (the squirrels, not the dogs). I doubt it, and that makes me sad.

P.S. Nice container garden you have there.

Dang that food chain! There's no escape.

How devoted your dog is, to sit and wait so patiently. My dog has no attention span; he would surely have forgotten all the fun within 48 hours.

Wow, she must move FAST!

Dogs are just dogs. They can't help it.

My first comment had meny spillin earrors. so I deeleted it.

Life is not easy for the Senior Squirrel, You get older, more forgetful perhaps, the old reflexes aren't what they used to be, you let your guard down for a split second, and you're in the jaws of death! I saw my neighbor moving a squirrel with a rake this afternoon after making his dog drop it. The squirrel is still "asleep"
lucky we reproduce twice a year,

Aww, poor squirrely. My sweet beautiful dog would do the same thing. My mom's dog killed a baby bunny. :(

And they say elephants never forget...

Bollywood would lead you to believe that elephants never forget. I have seen a couple of movies about elephants, one of which involved a mother elephant crushing a man, who harmed her baby elephant, to death.

My neighbor's dog is a killing machine. Dead chipmunks are a regular sight. He also corners skunks so we get that aroma--the dog has been sprayed by skunks several times but doesn't understand the skunk spray concept.

I took Cosmoe out this morning with my coffee. He saw two stray cats in the yard and spilled coffee all over me. Yesterday, in a similar setup, I was gazing at the yard and thinking about putting it all to bed and moving some stuff around when, splash, my coffee. An audacious squirrel had snuck up to within reach of us, and Cosmoe pounced. I wonder why I'll spill my coffee tomorrow.

yikes! poor dumb squirrel....according to my library october is squirrel awareness month. although I think it should have been dog awareness month considering the fate of your backyard rodent.

We have a bazillion squirrels and one would not be missed. We could use a squirrel hunter or six or seven.
