“You can't convince a believer of anything; for their belief is not based on evidence, it's based on a deep seated need to believe”--Carl Sagan

"Entities must not be multiplied beyond necessity. "--William of Ockham

Put plainly, in any mystery, the simplest explanation is the most likely answer.  Could the bright light be an alien spaceship? Yes.  Is it more likely an airplane, though.

I found a DVD in my mail box at work called, "The Truth about 9/11", or something like that.  Since I am the guy least likely to buy into conspiracy nonsense, I thought it must be  prank by one of my wacky coworkers.

As I was interrogating one of my likley suspects, our resident religious zealot happened by and interjected,

"Conspiracy nonsense?  That is an interesting way to phrase it."

"Foolishness."

"I believe it was a conspirarcy."

"It was.  A conspiracy among a bunch of religious nuts."

"That's one way to look at it, I suppose."

So, what is more likely?  That the US government conspired to destroy two iconic landmarks and kill 3000 innocent people and them somehow managed to hush up the hoards of people who would have to have been involved, or a small group of true believers, part of a well known terrorist movement did it?

When you hear hoof beats, think horses, not zebras.--a common medical expression.

I was going to offer up some tidbit of wisdom, but this whole conspiracy idea makes my head hurt.

On another note - I was reading the latest Nora Roberts (no laughing!) the other day & one of the characters had to sit beside SOME GUY NAMED BOB. I kid you not. It's right there on page 310.

For the character's sake, I hope it wasn't the real SGNB.

As long as I don't ever start babbling about the sterilization of the unfit, I figure I'm okay. But man, I'm so tempted to start said babbling sometimes!

I have a friend who works for the Federal government, and he said to a friend who thought 9/11 was a conspiracy "you are way overestimating the competency of the Federal government."

A lot of people still think Kennedy's assassination was because of a conspiracy. I have been tempted to buy into that one at times, but 9/11 is whole different ball game.
