Some commenters have wondered if the occupant of the house with The Great Wall of Our Street is up to no good within his fortress?

There is little chance of that. Even the most modest criminal enterprise requires some human interactions and a bit of initiative, two things he shies from. He is a recluse by nature and The Great Wall of Our Street is a product of his shyness. Only the refusal of the mason kept it from being even higher.

Something else. We got our monthly water bill last week and it was for $53. Of the $53, nine bucks was for water used and $44 was for fees and taxes.

Included in the fees was one for garbage pickup, one for sewer use, one for water storage, one for operating the town dump and a bunch of taxes.

Your state is broke, as is mine. Ditto for your town most likely. The US of A? Don't get me started. The problem according to the operators of our governments is a lack of cash.

Here in Arizona, we are voting Tuesday on a measure to pass a "temporary" one cent sales tax increase. The City of Hooterville is planning to ask for a half-cent increase in the fall. If both measures pass, we would effectively pay a sales tax of 10 percent.

Neither measure will pass and the world will come to an end. At least that is the result we have been told to expect.

Last Sunday the Hooterville Daily Dish , out hometown paper, ran a story pointing out that the Hooterville city budget has increased faster than inflation and faster than population growth over the past 20 years.

Spokespersons for the City responding with a resounding, But-ba-ba-ba...

The fact is that when you give government money, they spend it. All of it and then some. There is no end to what uses they find for it.

Suppose you got a bunch of overtime at your job next payday. Then, the boss told you to expect overtime for awhile. Would you use you new higher income level to buy a Mercedes and a McMansion? That's how government operates.

They spend as if the money will never stop flowing. Things in this blog represented to be fact, may or may not actually be true. The writer is frequently wrong, sometimes just full of it, but always judgmental and cranky

We live in a bureaucracy that has gotten out of control. But I do wish it would hire just one more lawyer so my son who graduated one more time can be employed and start to pay off his loans. What have we come to that so many kids have to start their working life up to their eyeballs in debt?

Over 80 percent of the loans I am actually closing are going to people who work for the public. Most of them make REALLY GOOD MONEY.
