Click to enlarge. I don't suppose it will kill me to admit that the weather guys got it right for once..."ahhhhhh! Call 9-1-1." Thud. Okay, so I'm not really dead and they were right for a change. We got rain, no frogs, no blizzard, heavy rain. I took the picture from the next street over, looking toward the Catalina Mountains. You can see the snow. The mountains got about three feet of snow and we got nearly 2 inches of rain. That's a lot for us, since we get just 12 inches in a normal year. Here in the desert, winter rain is what makes things go. It lets the desert thrive come Spring. It brings the snow pack and that is good for all of us who need water. We have put our cell phone travails to rest. Sort of. Verizon is out and T-Mobile is in. T-Mobile gave us more minutes and internet for almost the same money as we were paying Verizon for 500 minutes and nothing else. Plus, T-Mobile gave us new phones for free. When I called the folks at Verizon to cancel, their rep insisted that we owe them for another two weeks. They claim we can only quit on the last day of the billing cycle. Our phones with them have been disabled, but they say we will have service until the 5th of February. I asked the rep how I could use the service until the 5th without a working phone? She told me that they would suspend our service since we couldn't use it, but that we still have to pay for it. It is only about $40 difference, but I hate to pay Verizon another cent. And, if you think I hate it, you should talk to Mrs. Sneed. Things in this blog represented to be fact, may or may not actually be true. The writer is frequently wrong, sometimes just full of it, but always judgmental and cranky

Good clouds in that picture. Verizon is shady.

My brother has an excellent Verizon story. They still claim he owes them money. He just ignores them.

When I cancelled my Verizon service -- because I'm moving to an area where I can't get a decent connection -- they prorated the month I'd already paid and sent me a refund. So I don't think it's true that you have to pay to the end of the billing period.

I think a lot of this depends on which knucklehead you get when you call their 1-800 number.

Steve may have a point. Maybe you should try a different knucklehead. It would, at the very least, be fodder for another post.

That is one beautiful picture! Snowcapped mountains and palm trees; how lucky can you get?

(yrs ago i had a nice view of snowcapped Mtns. from my L.A. County kitchen window. I never minded standing there doing the dishes, looking up and seeing that view. I miss palm trees.

In many ways all these phone options have really complicated our lives. Life was so simple with no cell phones and with the AT&T monopoly...

I'm glad you guys got rain since you need it. We have rain, but I don't think we really need it. Fortunately today it's been in the upper 40s. Tomorrow the temp plunges & we get snow. Sigh.
