This is the red flower on the left in the top photo. Not everyone has hibiscus blooming at Christmas. One of the few advantages of living in the desert. If you are like most of us, you have a vague idea of where things are, geographically speaking. Especially East and West. New York is East, Los Angeles is West, Chicago is kind of in the middle. North and South orientation is a different matter. Hooterville is situated at 32 degrees, 13 minutes N latitude. We are down here in the left corner of the country, 60 miles or so from the Mexican border. Pretty far South, you might think. The entire state of Florida and most of Texas lies father South than do we. Hooterville is at the same latitude as Dallas, Texas, Montgomery, Alabama, Savanna, Georgia, Charlestown, S.C. and San Diego, California. For about six months of the year, the weather is pretty nice out here. For the other six, it sucks. Things in this blog represented to be fact, may or may not actually be true. The writer is frequently wrong, sometimes just full of it, but always judgmental and cranky

I hope you are enjoying those nice 6 months. The hibiscus is quite beautiful in the middle of the winter!

how do christmas cactus do in hooterville? I didn't do something right this year as I recently noticed my cactus doesn't have any buds - maybe it will be an easter cactus.

the hibiscus is gorgeous.

the forecast looks as if the little white we have will be giving way to wet for christmas day. at least we had a white solstice!

I sort of like cold, wintry weather, so the weather here only sucks for about 3 months out of the year.

I left such a clever comment, but blogger would not accept it. Dang, man.

I was thinking of getting a GPS, but then I realized I really don't want to know exactly where I am all the time.
