Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.---A. Lincoln. Some people have asked, "Merle Wayne Sneed, what is the worst part of that hardware store job?" Alright, no one asked but I will tell you anyway. It is the noise in my ear all day. We are required to wear earpieces that let the authorities direct us to where we are needed. So, all day long there is a torrent of voices in my ear. "Go here, do that, blah, blah, blah." As bad as it is to hear people talking about business all day, it is made doubly worse by the nitwits making idle chitchat when they are bored. Some days I feel like Quasimodo trapped in the bell tower. I posted a note on the bulletin board in the employee break room that said, "Just because they give you radios, it doesn't mean you have to talk." Now they are mocking me...over the radio. This is my new dog Jack. He is 10 weeks old and is part Lab and part a bunch of other things. He was rescued by a group from the pound. I'm hoping the "bunch of other things" in his lineage don't turn out to be anything too scary. Also I hope he doesn't turn out to be a 100 pound monster. Things in this blog represented to be fact, may or may not actually be true. The writer is frequently wrong, sometimes just full of it, but always judgmental and cranky

Oh Jack is cute - can't wait to see how big he gets. How big are his paws?

I don't like noise in my head all the time. Thank goodness my job is VERY quiet - might make some people bonkers (and who's to say I'm not bonkers already?), but I like it. But my hubby always has to have the TV on so home is never quiet. Sigh.

I think Jack is adorable! I hope you love him as much as I do my Jake.

I thought you were going to say the noise of the saw or the key-making machine, not some yoyo in the office. I'm not sure I could stand that. It seems like it would be better if they could just buzz you (or call you on a cell phone) if they needed YOU to do something. You shouldn't need to listen to everyone else's directives.

I have to agree with Kurt.

That would surely be obnoxious. Jack is so sweet looking.

Jack is adorable! Hey Merle, I had a 100 pound monster for 14 years and he was a total blessing in every way. I'm sure Jack will be a wonderful addition to the Sneed family.

As for useless chatter ... oh yeah. Sometimes at Yom Kippur, instead of food fasting I do a word fast. For 24 hours I keep my mouth shut. It is such a humbling experience as I realize that I believe I have something FABULOUS to say about EVERYTHING. For heaven's sake!

Is this an earpiece you have to wear all the time, or a radio that you carry? Having something in your ear sounds kind of big-brotherish, doesn't it???

Jack looks great! I think even scary breeds, when raised properly, often turn out to be pretty tame.

That Lincoln quote is one of my favorites. I need to adhere to it more often.

That pup is adorable. Is he named after anyone in particular?
