I like to say that there are two kinds of people in the world when it comes to {fill in the blank}. Shopping for clothes is no exception.
Some people, mostly women, shop frequently. They pick carefully, trying on things and reflecting on how a new item will coordinate with their existing wardrobe.
They use words like "fun" and "cute". These shoppers often come home from the store with a single item of clothing. We can call this group The Gatherers.
The second half of my two-group theory, are those people who wear their clothes until strangers begin to give them change on the street. Then, they find a clothing retailer near by and scoop up a giant armful of stuff without regard to color or style coordination or even actual sizing. They use words like "blue" . We can call this second group, The Hunters and I am their leader.
Operating on the theory that if one pair of pants fits, they all should fit, I had to make an additional trip to the store to exchange some stuff. Then, because I didn't exactly read the label on something, I had to exchange one of the exchanges.
It is no wonder that I dress like a vagrant.
Things in this blog represented to be fact, may or may not actually be true. The writer is frequently wrong, sometimes just full of it, but always judgmental and cranky

I don't even put on real clothes unless I'm going outside.
I'm a Hunter too. I hate trying on clothes. But then, I'm pretty picky about what I will and won't wear, so maybe I'm a combination of Hunter and Gatherer! (I usually just shop as infrequently as possible and leave it at that.)
Shopping? What's that?
I hate shopping! I was a big disappointment to my mother... However, when pressed, I am a gatherer when shopping for clothes. If I have to live with it for 10 years it had better well fit & look good! Anything else I'm a hunter - that car's blue. It looks ok - I'll take it!
My husband long ago resorted to the Internet for all of his shopping, sometimes returning things but usually making do so as not to have to darken the door of a retail establishment.
I, on the other hand, could spend hours just trying things on and buying maybe one or two new things. It's even more fun when you go as a group. Maybe it's a girl thing!
Shouldn't the first group be the hunters, and the 2nd be the gatherers?
I always tell my husband that if I should ever disappear from the scene, he should let my best friend buy his clothes for him.
I'm with you, Merle. I scrupulously avoid retail shopping unless absolutely necessary. As a woman, I think I'm a bit unusual in that respect...
Right after reading this I happened upon a similar theory-- Candace Bushnell's theory of hunting and gathering-- . Every man would love to have their own stylist. I do all my personal clothes shopping once or twice a year at sporting goods/army navy stores.I used to trash pick when I was younger and got all my furniture that way. But altho I hate to shop, I do like to be bandbox fresh and well groomed--I am old fashioned that way.
