This is one of my favorite pictures. Sometimes companies do things that are so consumer unfriendly, I have to wonder what they are thinking. Sometimes they take it a step further and do things that are not only bad for the consumer, but bad for them. I was talking to my friend at lunch yesterday and he told me that he just ruined his new Verizon cell phone by washing it along with the laundry. He's only had the phone for two months. He called Verizon and they told him that it will cost him $200 to replace it. The cost to cancel his service early is only $165. Why wouldn't he just cancel his service and sign up with someone else? He would be $35 bucks ahead. Instead of doing that, he is going to pay the $165 and go without a cell phone for awhile. I'm guessing that most of us could live without cell service. Things in this blog represented to be fact, may or may not actually be true. The writer is frequently wrong, sometimes just full of it, but always judgmental and cranky

He should tell them a competitor offered to pay his cancelation fee and give him a free phone if he'd sign a contract with them. Watch Verizon change their mind.

It's very easy to live without cell service, since everyone else has it and are always happy to let you use their phones for any stupid call--"here, use my phone" everyone seems very proud of their cell phone. People are always showing me there photo galleries on their phones. I forget my phone at home all the time and total strangers will make a call for me -- even from the grocery store,to ask the folks at home if they want Captain Crunch or Tweeter Ohs.

I forget my phone all the time, also. I think I just like being out of reach of chit-chat when I'm walking around.

I leave mine at home on purpose sometimes!

Clearly logic has very little to do with cell phone contracts. Last month I spent exactly 17 minutes in cell phone calls. They're handy for making connections at the last minute or calling for help or directions, but otherwise?

Contrary to public belief, mankind has survived thousands of years without cell phones. They never work for me when I need them most. Hate them!

I'm constantly amazed by stuff like that. You'd think I'd be used to it by now.

The cell phone companies will always get you one way or the other. There's lots of fine print in those contracts.

there are plenty of inexpensive model phones out there that can be used with verizon plans....but seems like your friend has his heart set on a 'special' type of phone.

good luck!
