Here are 15 seconds in the life of Lacey the Wonder Dog. I read an article yesterday about consciousness and what makes humans consciousness unique. The author said that it boils down to the ability to reflect on your own consciousness. If you are mean to a dog, it might remember that the next time it sees you, but it will never plot ways to get even. That's reserved for people. I had an odd day at work yesterday. My normally friendly boss was very standoffish. She only spoke to me one time, which in a small store is hard. Being me, I assumed I had pissed her off somehow. She passed me on one of the aisles and handed me a small box of cup hooks. She said that she found it in the trash. I told her that it was lucky that she found it and she gruffly replied that we need to be more careful. Since I didn't throw it there, I'm not sure why I got the lecture. One of my coworkers said that she was in one of "her moods", something I have never observed before, and at my stage of life, something I am not interested in tolerating. After the boss was gone for the day, I asked her assistant manager about her mood and he said that he thought she was just feeling poorly. People. What can you do? Things in this blog represented to be fact, may or may not actually be true. The writer is frequently wrong, sometimes just full of it, but always judgmental and cranky

It must be nice to be a dog. Look at her, just kind of taking it all in!

I would assume your boss' mood has nothing to do with you unless she tells you otherwise.

it's always unpleasant being there when somebody needs to vent. You'd like to be able to open a door in your own head and just let it breeze right through.

You were as innocent as Lacey, so just smell the roses and let the wash subside.

Maybe your boss hadn't had her caffeine fix yet (is this the Starbucks girl?)

As for dogs, they are the most forgiving creatures on the face of the earth. My dog leads a good and easy life, but he deserves every bit of affection that comes his way. I may not always have family and friends, but I will always have a dog.

seriously, what can you do!

perhaps, pascal said it best:
"plus je vois l'homme, plus j'aimie mon chien."

or in my case mon chat ou mon souris.....

re boss' mood....that too will pass...

It's almost never personal when people are rude, and unfortunately it's not personal when people are nice, either. Sad, isn't it?

They just figured out that our primate cousins who live in zoos spend a lot of time piling up rocks and sticks so that when the zoo opens they can throw them at the humans, so I think we may not be alone in reflecting on our consciousness.

The wonder dog is so cute. Love the chimes.

Someone was incredibly rude to me today. After she transferred my call I called her a bad word. Unfortunately the person she transferred me to had already picked up. Hoo boy.

I like Lacey's hangout.

I saw a book of Mr. Roger's quotes at the library and he had several on dealing with people when they have problems that make them moody (or rudey, or poorly)
Mr. Roger's genius was that he dealt with people without making himself feel bad or feel like he was wasting time on a jerk or whatever. I can't recall the quotes exactly, but they were impressive. The man knew how to deal with people.

That dog has a great life.

It must be because of that time you threw away old keys that were just in the way, and long onderdue to go into the trash. She must figure that means you're also responsible for throwing away stuff that is still useful.
