My pal Noah went home on Friday afternoon. His mother is out of the hospital and recovering at home. The house feels empty without the little guy jumping on the couch and ransacking the cupboards in search of snacks. Mrs. Sneed and I let him have the run of the joint, in the finest tradition of grandparents.
We have had a series of heavy rains the last few days, which has made thing chaotic at the store. Lots of people are coming in looking to patch roofs, repair downed fences and clean up fallen trees. Some are kind of agitated, which is understandable, I suppose.
In addition, the manager of the store is on vacation, leaving us shorthanded. Several people called in sick Friday and/or Saturday, which seems to happen more when the boss is gone.
I thought about the 80/20 principle, as it applies to our store. It is actually called the Pareto Principle and states that says that 80% of results come from 20% of the causes.
In the case of our store, 80% of the cases of someone calling in sick, are from 20% of the employees.
Things in this blog represented to be fact, may or may not actually be true. The writer is frequently wrong, sometimes just full of it, but always judgmental and cranky

It's storming here too. I like it.
The roaring rain won't even stop for a minute.
I assume someone is keeping track of who calls in sick, so the manager will have a record when he/she returns?
It's raining here too!
Glad to hear daughter Sneed is better.
I'm so happy to hear your daughter is at home. Hospitals are scary, dangerous places. Hope she's soon back to her standards of excellence.
As for calling in sick - wow - I really those days, when I didn't have to work, but someone had to pay me anyway. I always used ALL my sick days, no matter where I was working.
These days, when I don't work, I don't get paid. I working for myself better than any job I had working for someone else, but I do miss the sick days. I do.
I'm with you on the 80/20. It's always the same folks here too. I try not to let it bother me that they are allowed to get away with it.
I just skimmed this post very quickly, so I didn't understand it and have nothing intelligent to say about it
