Grdon Lightfoot's "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" popped into my head just now. In a way, all story songs are bad, because we just can't take hearing the same story sung 100 times. What's with the drowning themes? Jump off bridge, ship sinks, and in "Patches", she is found floating face down in a dirty old river.
I believe both Running Bear and Little White Dove drown too. These songs would make kids fear water!
Not a "story song" but 4+ mins long...and weird... the triplets are well worth the wait!

I like Cats In The Cradle! But the worstest song ever is the maddeningly repetitious Those Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days Of Summer.

What Alan Watts book would you recommend?
I read a bio at the Library one day, and I found a copy of "The Book" in my house today (while moving all my books)
thanks for the Watts tips. I bought "The Book" the same day I bought "The Outsider" by Colin Wilson. Quite a while ago.
I think you should write the ultimate epic story song using elements from other story songs and the tune of one of the songs.
